Welding

Welding is a fabrication or sculptural process that joins materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, by causing fusion, which is distinct from lower temperature metal-joining techniques such as brazing and soldering, which do not melt the base metal. In addition to melting the base metal, a filler material is typically added to the joint to form a pool of molten material (the weld pool) that cools to form a joint that, based on weld configuration (butt, full penetration, fillet, etc.), can be stronger than the base material (parent metal). Pressure may also be used in conjunction with heat, or by itself, to produce a weld. Until the end of the 19th century, the only welding process was forge welding, which blacksmiths had used for millennia to join iron and steel by heating and hammering. Arc welding and oxyfuel welding were among the first processes to develop late in the century, and electric resistance welding followed soon after. Welding technology advanced quickly during the early 20th century as the world wars drove the demand for reliable and inexpensive joining methods. Following the wars, several modern welding techniques were developed, including manual methods like SMAW, now one of the most popular welding methods, as well as semi-automatic and automatic processes such as GMAW, SAW, FCAW and ESW. Developments continued with the invention of laser beam welding, electron beam welding, and friction stir welding in the latter half of the century. Today, the science continues to advance. Robot welding is commonplace in industrial settings, and researchers continue to develop new welding methods and gain greater understanding of weld quality.

Electrical

Electricians install, maintain, and repair electrical power, communications Lighting, and control systems in homes, businesses and factories. Electricians work indoors & outdoors in nearly every type of facility. Almost all electricians work full time, which usually include evenings and weekends. The employment of electricians is projected to grow 14% from 2015 to 2024 much faster than average of all occupations. The electrical trade is designed to do more than just train you for a job. The electrical industry covers more than people are a where of: high-tech world of solid-state controls, programmable controls, computerized networking, and fiber optics are just a few areas that electricians work in. Apprentices will study and learn to interpret and apply the requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC). A solid background in the theory and technology of the electrical trade will be needed to work in the field. A knowledge and ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical circuits and equipment is a must to be a licensed electrician. Training gives apprentices the flexibility to pursue different areas of employment as entry level electricians.

Facilities Maintenance

A Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, inspection and repair of the inside, outside and exterior areas around large buildings and complexes (including the roof), as well as the various systems within the facility, including ventilating, humidifier and air conditioning, water and water treatment, heating and electrical systems.

A Facilities Maintenance Technician checks and inspects fire safety equipment and performs grounds maintenance as well as maintenance around the inside, outside and exterior of smaller sized apartment buildings. A Facilities Maintenance Technician monitors and operates electrical and plumbing systems and inspects and verifies emergency power, fire suppression and sprinkler systems, in addition to the above duties.


What We Offer

LTI offers 6 to 12-week courses in beginning and advanced welding technology, electrical technology, facilities maintenance, and pipeline safety. We provide students with the skills they’ll need to successfully complete any program provided. Students who successfully complete the programs are tested and certified to industry standards and have the qualifications to obtain a well-paying career in each industry. LTI works hard to keep the cost of training affordable. Fees are charged at registration. Students can enter into a payment plan with LTI. Payment due on or before the first day of class. You must set up this payment plan in advance with LTI. Please contact us to get started.

Financial assistance is available through the Workforce Investment Opportunity Act (WIOA), Vocational Rehabilitation, United Sioux Tribes, and private lenders. LTI can provide information to lenders, as needed, but does not participate in the Federal Financial Assistance program at this time. If you need help finding financial assistance to attend LTI, please talk to our office staff, who will be happy to help.
